Another staged encounter by the Indian Army in occupied Kashmir has been uncovered, resulting in the death of local resident Altaf Lali in what appears to be an extrajudicial killing. According to sources, Lali was abducted from his home by Indian forces on April 22, 2025, and his family was later informed of his death in an alleged encounter.
A female resident from the region shared her account of the incident, revealing the details surrounding the fake encounter. She explained that authorities initially summoned Lali’s sister to the police station. While she was released, Lali was detained. “Later, at around 6 PM, they called the family and informed them that he had been killed in an encounter,” the woman said. She raised doubts about the official story, questioning, “If he was truly a militant, how could he have been living openly at home?”

Frustration over the lack of accountability was evident as the resident criticized the authorities. “Now when we raise our voices, no one listens to us. They took him far away to kill him where we cannot even see his body,” she lamented. She also pointed out the contradiction in the Indian forces’ narrative, stating, “If Altaf Lali was actually a militant commander as they claim, such commanders don’t live openly in homes. The Indian Army knew he wasn’t a commander, so why did they kill him?”
This tragic incident follows the killing of two other Kashmiris, Mohammad Farooq and Mohammad Din, in another alleged fake encounter on April 24, 2025. According to a report from the previous year, India has been responsible for over 7,000 extrajudicial killings of Kashmiris since 1989. The exposure of these false encounters continues to shed light on the ongoing pattern of human rights violations in the region, which has garnered international attention.
