Justice Mansoor Ali Shah Takes Oath as Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan
ISLAMABAD – Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court, was sworn in as the Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan on Monday. The ceremony was held at the Supreme Court of Pakistan, attended by fellow judges, senior lawyers, Attorney Generals, and judicial officers.
Justice Muneeb Akhtar administered the oath to Justice Shah, who will serve in the role during Chief Justice Yahya Afridi’s official visit to China from April 22 to 26.
Chief Justice Afridi to Represent Pakistan at SCO Conference
According to a Supreme Court press release, Chief Justice Yahya Afridi will lead a high-level Pakistani judicial delegation to attend the Conference of Chief Justices of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member countries in China.
During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is expected to be signed between the Supreme Court of Pakistan and the Supreme People’s Court of China to enhance bilateral judicial cooperation.

In addition, Chief Justice Afridi is scheduled to meet with his Iranian counterpart on the sidelines of the SCO conference, further strengthening regional legal ties.

Significantly, Justice Shahid Waheed will deliver a presentation at the conference, focusing on the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the judicial system, highlighting Pakistan’s commitment to modernizing legal processes.
Visit to Turkey for Constitutional Court Anniversary
Following the SCO engagement, Chief Justice Afridi will proceed to Turkey to participate in the 63rd anniversary celebrations of the Turkish Constitutional Court, further cementing judicial diplomacy between Pakistan and Turkey.
During Chief Justice Afridi’s absence, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah will continue to serve as the Acting Chief Justice, ensuring the Supreme Court’s operations remain uninterrupted.
