Punjab Government Announces 30-Minute Reduction in Public School Hours for Summer
The Punjab government has announced a 30-minute reduction in public school hours for the summer season, effective from April 7 to October 15.
According to a notification issued by the School Education Department (SED), single-shift schools will now operate from 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM from Monday to Thursday, while on Fridays, classes will end at 11:30 AM. Previously, these schools operated until 1:30 PM during the summer months.

For double-shift schools, the morning shift will run from 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM on weekdays and 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM on Fridays. The evening shift will operate from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM from Monday to Thursday, while on Fridays, it will run from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM.
District Education Authority (DEA) chief executive officers (CEOs) have been instructed to strictly enforce the revised schedule. Any failure to comply may lead to legal action.
Additionally, the notification provides a 15-minute adjustment in school opening and closing times for boys’ and girls’ schools, depending on specific circumstances.
