PM Shehbaz Sharif Urges Global Action on International Day to Combat Islamophobia

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his message on the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, has called on the global community to address the growing challenges faced by Muslims, including rising discrimination, hate crimes, and attacks on sacred symbols and places of worship. The day, recognized by the United Nations General Assembly three years ago, serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to combat Islamophobia worldwide.

PM Sharif stressed the significance of this day as a global call to action, reflecting the international community’s commitment to fighting rising hatred against Muslims. He highlighted Pakistan’s leadership in pushing this initiative at the UN, noting the positive steps taken by member states, including criminalizing acts like Quran desecration. He underscored the need for urgent legislative and policy measures to address these critical issues.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the desecration of religious symbols under the pretext of freedom of expression is unacceptable and has no place in a civil society. He urged the world to uphold respect for all religions and their revered figures, as this is essential for fostering global peace and harmony.

Pakistan, Sharif said, remains firm in its demand for action against incidents of religious intolerance, including Quran desecration and mosque attacks. He also expressed optimism about the upcoming appointment of a UN Special Envoy to combat Islamophobia, a decision made by the UN General Assembly.
