PM urges zero tolerance against profiteers to ensure maximum public relief during Ramazan

PM Shehbaz Orders Strict Action Against Profiteers During Ramazan

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the Islamabad administration to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against profiteering, reaffirming the federal government’s commitment to providing maximum relief to the people during Ramazan.

Government’s Price Control Measures

Chairing a meeting to assess the committee’s performance on ensuring affordable food prices, the PM emphasized that no profiteer should escape punishment, according to a PM Office press release.

He commended the committee and administration for their efforts in stabilizing food prices and ensuring the availability of essential commodities at lower rates.

To further strengthen the price control system, the prime minister instructed:

  • Elected representatives and ministers to visit Ramazan bazaars, Sahulat stalls, and other key locations.
  • Continuous monitoring to prevent any lapse in enforcement.

Initiatives Implemented in Islamabad

The meeting was briefed on key Ramazan relief measures, including:

  • 16 Sahulat stalls
  • 5 Ramazan bazaars
  • 18 fair price shops
  • DC counters at departmental stores for 12 essential items

Essential food items like ghee, eggs, pulses, sugar, and chicken are being sold at below-market rates.

Crackdown on Profiteers

  • 4,915 inspections conducted
  • 785 arrests made
  • Fines worth Rs. 728,000 imposed

Additionally, an online application is being used to monitor price magistrates’ performance.

Social Welfare Initiatives

  • Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal has organized Iftar dinners for deserving individuals at eight locations.

Meeting Participants

The session was attended by federal ministers, including Dr. Ahsan Iqbal, Ahad Khan Cheema, Attaullah Tarar, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Hanif Abbasi, Talal Chaudhry, and senior government officials.

These measures reaffirm the government’s commitment to ensuring affordability and curbing profiteering during the holy month of Ramazan.
