Saim Ayub Ruled Out for Another Month Due to Ankle Fracture

Pakistan’s talented top-order batter, Saim Ayub, has been ruled out of cricket for at least another month following a right ankle fracture sustained earlier in January. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) provided an update, stating that Ayub is on the path to recovery and will continue his rehabilitation in England.

The injury, which occurred on January 3, has sidelined the 22-year-old for 10 weeks, according to the results of MRI scans, X-rays, and medical assessments. Ayub’s participation in Pakistan’s upcoming tour of New Zealand, scheduled from March 16 to April 5, will depend on his recovery and clearance of all medical tests. Unfortunately, his injury has also led to his exclusion from Pakistan’s Champions Trophy 2025 squad.

Ayub sustained the injury while fielding during the opening day of a match, where he stumbled backward and twisted his ankle attempting a relay fielding effort with teammate Aamir Jamal. The incident happened during the seventh over while fielding in the deep third-man region.

Since making his international debut in March 2023 against Afghanistan, Ayub has quickly emerged as one of Pakistan’s brightest batting talents, amassing 44 international caps. His ODI record is particularly impressive, with three centuries and a half-century in just nine matches. His aggressive yet controlled approach at the crease has made him a key figure in Pakistan’s lineup, especially during their 3-0 whitewash of South Africa last year, where he scored two centuries and earned Player of the Series honors.

Ayub’s injury is a setback for both the player and the team, but fans and the PCB are hopeful for a speedy and successful recovery to have him back in action soon.
