At least three police officers were martyred in a gun attack on a police checkpost in Karak district early Thursday, as militants launched an assault in the Bahadur Khel area using heavy weapons. According to law enforcement sources, the attack led to a prolonged exchange of gunfire before the assailants managed to flee the scene.
Police reinforcements and emergency responders quickly arrived, transporting the bodies of the slain officers and the injured personnel to the district headquarters hospital. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s provincial police chief, Zulfiqar Hamid, visited the site to assess the situation and instructed a security operation in response to the assault.

While no group has yet claimed responsibility, the region has witnessed a significant uptick in militant violence in recent months, with security forces frequently targeted in similar attacks. Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, condemned the assault as a “cowardly act” and paid tribute to the fallen officers, vowing that militants would not be allowed to destabilize the region.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur also expressed his condolences, reaffirming the government’s commitment to combating terrorism.
