Gaddafi Stadium’s Swift Renovation Marks Historic Milestone in Cricket

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has recently celebrated the remarkable transformation of Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, calling its rapid upgrade a world record in the cricketing world. The stadium, which has undergone significant renovations in just 110 days, is set to become a centerpiece for upcoming international events, including the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025.

PCB Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, visited the site early in the morning to inspect the final stages of construction, focusing on the finishing work of various floors and hospitality boxes. Ensuring that all elements met high standards, Naqvi emphasized the importance of completing the work swiftly while maintaining top-notch quality. The completion of the stadium is nearly at hand, with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif scheduled to inaugurate it on February 7.

Once renovated, Gaddafi Stadium’s seating capacity will increase by 10,000, accommodating a total of 34,000 spectators. This expansion will allow more fans to enjoy the thrilling atmosphere of live cricket during the Champions Trophy. Naqvi also extended his appreciation to the construction teams, inviting them to witness the action at the first match of the tri-nation ODI series on February 8.

This renovation marks a historic moment for Pakistan cricket, as Gaddafi Stadium will host several key matches in the Champions Trophy, including the second semi-final on March 5. If India does not qualify for the final, it will be held in Lahore on March 9. Additionally, the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy trophy has returned to Pakistan after completing its world tour, and it will be displayed in major cities, including Lahore, until February 15.
