Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched Lahore’s first electric bus service as a pilot project, paving the way for eco-friendly urban transportation.
During the inauguration, CM Maryam Nawaz traveled on the electric bus and received a briefing from Transport Minister Bilal Akbar. The service, designed to promote sustainability, includes modern features to ensure passenger safety and convenience.
Key Features
- Capacity: 80 passengers, including provisions for differently-abled individuals.
- Facilities: GPS tracking, Wi-Fi, USB charging ports, anti-slip flooring, onboard security cameras, and gender-segregated compartments.
- Range: 250 km per charge, supported by nine charging stations.
Route & Operations
- Initial Phase: 27 buses covering a 21-kilometer route from Lahore Railway Station to Green Town, serving key areas like Ferozepur Road and Canal Road.
- Daily Capacity: Expected to serve 17,000 passengers with buses arriving every nine minutes.
- Additional Infrastructure: 42 modern bus shelters to be constructed.
The service will soon feature digital payments, a mobile app for real-time tracking, and Universal Transport Cards. Future upgrades include solar-powered fans, water coolers, and enhanced security at bus stops. This initiative reflects Punjab’s commitment to sustainable and efficient urban mobility solutions.
