How the Funds Can Be Used:

  • Science Labs: Funds can be utilized to upgrade or equip science laboratories with modern equipment.
  • Classroom Construction: New classrooms can be built to accommodate more students and improve the learning environment.
  • Painting and Varnishing: The funds can also be used to repaint and refurbish existing classrooms and facilities, contributing to a more conducive learning environment.

Approval and Spending Process:

The funds can be accessed with the approval of the School Management Council. Additionally, to streamline the spending process, the government has introduced concessions under the PREPA rules, making it easier for schools to use the allocated funds.

Comparisons to Previous Allocations:

Previously, school councils were limited to spending only Rs200,000, and school heads had to pay significant taxes to access these funds. The introduction of this larger grant is seen as a step towards addressing the infrastructure needs of government schools more effectively.

Grant Distribution:

This Rs2.5 million grant will be provided separately from the school’s Non-Salary Budget (NSB), which schools will continue to receive every three months. However, the Rs2.5 million is a one-time provision, specifically aimed at making significant improvements to the schools’ physical infrastructure.

This initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to enhance the quality of education and provide better learning environments for students across the province.
