Govt Official Urges Public to Use the Internet for Important Matters and for Limited Time Only

Syed Sajid Mehdi, the Parliamentary Secretary for the Cabinet Division, recently spoke about the need for Pakistanis to limit their internet usage to essential activities. He emphasized that excessive use of the internet has contributed to traffic congestion and placed significant pressure on the country’s internet infrastructure. According to Mehdi, Pakistan’s internet infrastructure is currently only equipped with 15% fiber capacity, a stark contrast to India’s 45%. He pointed out that this imbalance, coupled with high demand, has led to slow internet speeds.

Mehdi reassured the public that efforts are underway to upgrade the internet network, with improvements expected in the next three to four months. He suggested that users should prioritize important tasks online and reduce unnecessary usage to alleviate the strain on the system.

In response to reports of financial losses exceeding $1 million per hour due to internet outages, the official refuted these claims, stating that no formal complaints had been made about such losses. Instead, he attributed the slow internet speeds to population growth and infrastructure limitations, urging users to adopt a more disciplined approach to internet use to help improve the system’s efficiency.
