The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has launched a school nutrition program aimed at promoting children’s health and proper growth.
The initiative, which was inaugurated by PFA Director General Asim Javed at DPS Model Town, is designed to educate students, teachers, and parents on the importance of nutritious diets and the dangers of unhealthy eating habits.

During the event, DG Asim Javed shared concerning statistics: over 40% of children are affected by stunting due to malnutrition, 28% suffer from wasting, 30% face height deficiencies for their age, and 9.5% are overweight.
The program offers free screenings for weight, height, and Body Mass Index (BMI), with reports provided to parents, schools, and the School Education Department.
The pilot phase, which includes 25 government schools and 38,000 students, will provide nutritious meals and conduct health assessments. After two months, the program is set to expand across Punjab.
DPS Principal Brig (retd) Khurram Mehmood Rana praised the PFA’s efforts, highlighting the urgent need for greater awareness about the importance of nutrition in Pakistan.
