New macOS Update Unveils Upcoming MacBook Changes for 2025

Apple’s macOS Sequoia 15.2 Update Hints at M4 MacBook Air Models

Apple’s latest macOS Sequoia 15.2 update has provided a sneak peek into the company’s plans for its MacBook Air lineup. Leaks from the software indicate that Apple is preparing to release two refreshed versions of its ultra-portable notebooks—a 13-inch and a 15-inch model—both powered by the upcoming M4 chipset.

However, significant design changes are unlikely for these iterations, as the newly referenced devices—identified by MacRumors in the macOS files as ‘Mac16,12’ and ‘Mac16,13’—align with the naming conventions for the updated MacBook Air models. This suggests that the display sizes will remain the same as the current 13-inch and 15-inch versions, signaling that Apple’s primary focus will be on hardware upgrades rather than altering the external design.

This approach mirrors the recent M4 MacBook Pro, which maintained the same design while introducing performance and configuration improvements. For example, the M4 MacBook Pro introduced 16 GB of unified RAM and 512 GB of storage as the baseline configuration, much to the appreciation of consumers seeking functional enhancements.

Pricing will play a critical role in the M4 MacBook Air’s success. With the current M3 MacBook Air priced at around $1,099 for the 13-inch model with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB storage, Apple will need to strike a balance between affordability and introducing the latest hardware upgrades. It’s expected that the new models will start around $1,199.

Though Apple has not officially announced the new MacBook Air models yet, production for the M4 MacBook Air is anticipated to begin soon, with a potential release date in 2025.
