Benedicte Schilbred Fasmer officially began her tenure as CEO of Telenor on December 2, 2024. Prior to this role, she served as the CEO of Sparebank1 Sør-Norge, and in the weeks leading up to her official appointment, she took the time to meet with colleagues at Telenor. Fasmer expressed her excitement about her new position, stating, “Telenor has a strong footprint in both the Nordics and Asia. I will now use some time to listen, learn and understand our business, customers, and people. Fortunately, I have had the opportunity to get a head start in recent weeks. I have already met many talented people who are really passionate about Telenor’s success. I really look forward to officially joining the team.”
Fasmer succeeds Sigve Brekke, who led Telenor for over nine years. The appointment was announced in May, but her leadership officially began on December 2. Jens Petter Olsen, Chairman of Telenor’s Board, expressed confidence in Fasmer’s abilities, emphasizing her strong leadership and vision. “Benedicte has demonstrated strong leadership and vision. Telenor has delivered impressive results in turbulent times, but the pace of technological advancement demands continued innovation. I’m confident that Benedicte is the right leader to chart our future course,” Olsen remarked.

Fasmer brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having been part of the group management at DNB and Fremtind Forsikring. She also led Sparebank 1 Sør-Norge for four years and has extensive board experience, including with the Oslo Stock Exchange, Vipps, and Norges Bank’s Supervisory Council.
As CEO of Telenor, Fasmer will lead a team of 11,000 employees across the Nordics and Asia. Telenor has a total of 211 million subscriptions across eight markets, including True in Thailand and CelcomDigi in Malaysia. Fasmer highlighted the importance of Telenor’s services and infrastructure, stating, “Telenor, with over 170 years of history, stands as a cornerstone of society. Our services and infrastructure are integral to the communities we serve and our customers’ daily lives. We are committed to maintaining this trust and will continue to uphold Telenor’s strategic direction. I am also looking forward to exploring the opportunities that technology represents for Telenor.”
