Punjab Introduces E-Taxis to Fight Air Pollution

The Punjab government has launched a new initiative aimed at tackling air pollution while also creating job opportunities for the unemployed.

E-Taxi Service Initiative

The plan includes the introduction of an e-taxi service, which will provide electric vehicles (EVs) to online taxi drivers at attractive rates. This initiative is designed to reduce pollution and offer financial benefits to the drivers.

Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan outlined the scheme, revealing that a significant number of online taxis will be converted to electric vehicles. These EVs will be available to drivers through down payments or easy installment plans, making it more accessible for them to participate.

Benefits of the Shift to Electric Taxis

Minister Khan emphasized that transitioning to electric taxis will not only help reduce harmful emissions but will also be economically advantageous for drivers. According to studies, drivers could save up to 40% on fuel costs by switching to electric vehicles.

Addressing Urban Pollution

This program was introduced in response to the rising demand for online taxi services in Punjab and to address the increasing pollution in urban areas, especially in Lahore.

The transition to electric taxis will provide multiple benefits: a cleaner environment, lower fuel costs, and better economic prospects for drivers. Moreover, the scheme is expected to create numerous job opportunities for those currently unemployed.
