On Saturday, Talal Chaudhry, a senator from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), strongly criticized Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, accusing them of destabilizing Pakistani politics and embarrassing the nation for personal gain. During a press conference in Islamabad, Chaudhry condemned Khan’s self-serving approach, which he claimed had undermined Pakistan’s governance and harmed relations with international allies. He further pointed out that non-political figures now control Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), a situation that compromises the national interest.
Chaudhry also took issue with preferential practices in the PTI government, particularly in Punjab, where he alleged that government posts and transfers were “priced.” His criticism extended to Bushra Bibi’s recent comments about Saudi Arabia, which he argued tarnished Pakistan’s diplomatic relations with the Kingdom. Following these remarks, a case was filed against Bushra Bibi in Dera Ghazi Khan, accusing her of making statements that damaged Pakistan’s image. The government quickly responded, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemning her comments as a threat to Pakistan’s ties with Saudi Arabia.

In a video, Bushra Bibi had made controversial statements regarding her husband’s first visit to Madina, claiming that General Qamar Javed Bajwa, the former army chief, received calls from officials in Saudi Arabia expressing concerns over the visit. She claimed these calls expressed worries about Shariah law and Pakistan’s role in promoting it. Bushra Bibi also suggested that both she and her husband had been targeted for their beliefs, a claim she later linked to General Bajwa and other government officials who allegedly shared this information. However, General Bajwa has firmly denied these allegations, calling them “100% false.”
The government, including Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, has called Bushra Bibi’s remarks “unfortunate,” with Asif accusing her of damaging Pakistan’s long-standing relationship with Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, PTI has downplayed her comments, with Sheikh Waqas Akram, PTI’s Information Secretary, stating that Bushra Bibi did not directly criticize Saudi leadership. PTI reiterated its commitment to maintaining strong and respectful relations with Saudi Arabia.
