Ali Fazal, known for his gripping portrayal of Guddu Bhaiya in the popular Prime Video series Mirzapur, is set to bring his iconic character to the big screen in the upcoming Mirzapur: The Film.
In a recent interview with India Today Digital, Fazal expressed his excitement about the film adaptation and his thoughts on the potential expansion of his character. Mirzapur, which has gained a massive following for its raw depiction of gangsters and power struggles, is making the leap from the small screen to the silver screen. Fans are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to see their favorite characters, including Fazal’s Guddu Bhaiya, in a new, larger-than-life format.

While Fazal has earned widespread acclaim for his role, he admits he’s uncertain about how much more can be explored in the film version, considering his character was thoroughly developed across three seasons. “I am truly excited about the film, as it marks a first for us. Interestingly, around the same time, one of the biggest Hollywood series, Peaky Blinders, also announced plans to adapt their show into a film,” Fazal shared. “In terms of my character, I’m not entirely sure how much more can be explored, given that many facets have already been expanded on.”
The challenge, according to Fazal, lies in condensing the depth of the series into a concise, cinematic experience. “The goal now is to distil all the depth from the three seasons into a one- or two-hour film, which is quite a challenge. It all depends on how the story unfolds in this new format,” he said.
The Mirzapur film promises to dive deeper into the gritty underworld of the fictional town, with the rowdy gangsters returning to their iconic roles. Fans can expect an adrenaline-filled ride, with Fazal’s Guddu Bhaiya likely to have a commanding presence on the big screen.
The film is backed by Amazon MGM Studios and Excel Entertainment, with Puneet Krishna behind the story and Gurmmeet Singh directing. A teaser video featuring stars like Pankaj Tripathi and Divyenndu was recently released on social media, further fueling the excitement for the film’s release.
