The annual elections for the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) are currently underway, with polling taking place across high courts and circuit benches throughout the country. Lawyers from various regions are participating in this significant electoral process.
Key candidates from the Asma Jahangir and Hamid Khan groups are competing for vital positions, including president, secretary, and vice president, along with a range of executive member roles from all four provinces. In total, 4,021 lawyers are registered to vote, with Karachi having 516 voters casting their ballots at the New Bar Room of the Sindh High Court. Polling in Karachi runs from 9 AM to 5 PM, while in Lahore, where the highest number of voters (1,014) are registered, voting is scheduled from 8:30 AM to 5 PM.

There are 17 candidates contending for five positions within the SCBA. Mian Rauf of the Asma Jahangir Group is running for president against Munir Ahmed Kakar from the Hamid Khan Group. For the role of general secretary, Malik Zahid Aslam Awan (Asma Jahangir Group) faces off against Salman Manzoor (Hamid Khan Group).
The election also features contests for the finance secretary position, with Chaudhry Tanveer representing the Asma Jahangir Group and Mir Aurangzeb from the Hamid Khan Group.
Vice presidential candidates for Sindh include Malik Khushal Khan Awan, Muhammad Nadeem Qureshi, and Yousuf Maulvi, while executive member candidates in the province are Aamir Jameel Virk, Ahmad Ali Dewan, Naveedul Haq, and Rizwana Jameel.
In Punjab, the vice presidential race features Rana Bakhtiar and Rana Ghulam Sarwar. Meanwhile, in Islamabad, where the SCBA’s principal seat is located, 769 lawyers are eligible to vote.
As the elections unfold, the rivalry between the Asma Jahangir and Hamid Khan groups is a central theme, highlighting the high stakes involved in securing leadership roles within Pakistan’s Supreme Court Bar Association.
