Shamim Ahmed, a prominent student leader affiliated with Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League party, was brutally beaten to death at Jahangirnagar University in Dhaka.
Authorities suspect that the attack was retaliation for his involvement in violence against protesters during the recent uprising that led to the ousting of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina last month.

Police officer Abu Bakkar reported that Ahmed was assaulted by unknown attackers on Wednesday night and later succumbed to his injuries at Gonoshasthaya Hospital.
This incident marks the second killing of an Awami League student leader this month, following the earlier murder of Abdullah Al Masud, who was targeted for supporting counter-demonstrations against the protests that resulted in Hasina’s removal in early August. Since then, many members of her party have faced arrests, and government officials have been dismissed from their roles.
