Israel’s military reported that a surface-to-surface missile fired from Yemen hit an uninhabited area in central Israel, causing no casualties. The missile struck after air raid sirens had sounded in Tel Aviv and other central regions, prompting residents to seek shelter.
According to the military, the missile was intercepted by the Arrow air defense system. However, fragments of the missile fell near Gezer and potentially in three other locations, including Paatei Modiin train station and Rehovot. This indicated that the interceptors did not manage to shoot down the missile entirely outside Israeli airspace.

This incident follows a similar attack in July when Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels launched a long-range drone at Tel Aviv, resulting in one death and four injuries. The drone strike led to a significant Israeli airstrike on Houthi military positions in Yemen, causing multiple casualties.
The recent missile launch highlights the escalating tensions in the region. Reports suggest that Houthi fighters are now being deployed to Syria and have cooperated with Islamic resistance groups in Iraq to launch attacks against Israel. Despite their threats, direct engagement with Israeli forces has yet to occur.
Since October 2023, the Houthis have intensified their attacks on Israel, using cruise missiles and drones primarily targeting southern Israel and the Eilat region. In response, Israel’s air force has conducted strikes on Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, particularly around the strategic port of al-Hodeidah. Both sides remain on high alert as the situation continues to develop.
