The Sindh government has decided to introduce a facial recognition attendance system in the Education Department. The move is part of broader efforts to improve employee monitoring and strengthen administrative oversight.
The new attendance system is expected to help authorities record staff presence more accurately. Officials believe it will reduce absenteeism and improve accountability across schools and education offices.
According to department sources, the Sindh government also plans to take action against employees who remain absent from duty without valid reasons. Authorities are also preparing to investigate workers suspected of holding fake academic degrees.
The initiative comes at a time when the Education Department is dealing with several administrative challenges. One of the biggest concerns is the large number of employees seeking early retirement.
Sources said around 15,000 teaching and non-teaching staff members have applied for early retirement. Processing these requests is expected to place additional financial and administrative pressure on the Finance Division.
Officials are reviewing the situation to manage the impact on staffing and future recruitment. A large number of retirements could create vacancies across schools and education offices in the province.
At the same time, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has started verifying the academic credentials of employees recruited by the Sindh Education Department between 1989 and 2020.
The verification process aims to confirm whether employees possess genuine educational qualifications. Authorities will examine recruitment records and academic documents as part of the ongoing review.
The Sindh government considers both the attendance system and degree verification process important steps toward improving transparency in the education sector. Officials hope these measures will strengthen public confidence in the department.
Facial recognition technology is expected to provide more accurate attendance records than traditional manual methods. It can also reduce the chances of proxy attendance and improve monitoring of employee performance.
The Education Department has not yet announced a timeline for the full implementation of the facial recognition system. More details are expected after administrative planning is completed.
