Organized by Global Citizen, an international advocacy organization dedicated to ending extreme poverty, the festival offers free tickets that can be earned through actions taken on the Global Citizen app or at globalcitizenfestival.com. The event’s mission is to defeat poverty, protect the planet, and promote equity.

Benson Boone expressed his dedication to the cause, stating, “Ending extreme poverty is a shared responsibility… I hope we can unite to take meaningful action and create real change.”

In a first for the festival, all audio, lighting, video, and stage production will be powered by the SmartGrid battery system, previously used during Coldplay’s “Music of the Spheres” tour. This sustainable approach aims to reduce carbon emissions and environmental impact.

As part of its campaign, Global Citizen will launch Climate Week with a beach clean-up on September 21, in partnership with the Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy and supported by Goodera, coinciding with International Coastal Clean-up Day.

Global Citizen and its partners are also advocating for $1 billion in investments to protect and restore the Amazon by 2025, supporting Indigenous and riverfront communities. In New York, they are pushing for Governor Kathy Hochul to sign the TREES Act, which aims to prevent public funds from contributing to tropical deforestation.

Michael Sheldrick, Co-Founder & Chief Policy, Impact and Government Affairs Officer at Global Citizen, highlighted the festival’s commitment to sustainable change, stating, “Global Citizen Festival has always harnessed the power of music and activism to drive real, tangible progress… We’re urging world leaders, businesses, and citizens to join us in mobilizing action toward a just transition to clean energy and a safer planet for all.”
