Pakistan is set to commemorate its 77th Independence Day today, August 14, with traditional fervor and enthusiasm. A wide array of events and activities have been planned to honor the sacrifices of national heroes in securing a separate homeland.
The day will begin with special prayers and a 31-gun salute in the federal capital, accompanied by a 21-gun salute in all provincial capitals. At dawn, mosques across the country will offer prayers for the nation’s peace, unity, and prosperity.
The centerpiece of the day’s celebrations will be a national flag-hoisting ceremony in Islamabad, with similar ceremonies taking place at provincial, divisional, and district levels nationwide.
Public and private organizations will host a variety of special events, including seminars, discussion programs, photographic exhibitions, painting, poetry, national songs, and debate competitions, all aimed at recognizing the contributions of Pakistan Movement leaders and honoring the sacrifices of national heroes.

Across the federal capital, as in other cities, major roads and avenues have been adorned with flags, banners, and bunting, creating a festive atmosphere. The beautifully decorated public and private buildings in Islamabad have become a major attraction, drawing people eager to see the dazzling illuminations.
The print and electronic media will spotlight the services of Pakistan Movement heroes, paying tribute to their remarkable contributions in making Pakistan a reality.
The Islamabad Capital Territory Police and provincial governments have finalized a traffic management plan to ensure the safety and convenience of the public during the celebrations.
The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has organized a series of events to mark Independence Day in a grand manner, with both large and small gatherings planned across the city to encourage widespread participation and enjoyment.
Among the many events, F-9 Park will host a musical concert, fireworks, and Islamabad’s first-ever drone show. A tree planting area will also be designated, allowing families, youth, and children to participate in the celebrations.
The five-day Independence Day Inter-Provincial Basketball Championships for Men and Women began on August 10 at the Pakistan Sports Complex. The championships are being held at Liaquat Gymnasium under the Federal Basketball Association’s (FBBA) supervision, with support from the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB).
In addition, literary and cultural organizations have planned numerous programs to commemorate the day. The Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) has organized a special puppet show through its National Puppet Theater as part of the Independence Day festivities. The show, featuring vibrantly costumed puppets, will include national songs, folk tales, skits, and folk dances, showcasing Pakistan’s independence journey and historical heritage.
PNCA is also set to release an official song for Independence Day titled “Arz e Watan Ki Khair Ho,” expressing love for the motherland. The song features Yawar Bakshi as the singer, with music and composition by Sherry and Yawar, and direction by Mohrazban.
An art exhibition titled “Hues of Pakistan” opened at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) on Monday, displaying a vibrant collection of artwork in connection with Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations. The exhibition highlights the rich cultural heritage and artistic talents of the nation’s youth, attracting numerous visitors.
The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) will also launch a Tree Plantation Campaign titled “Sarsabz Pakistan-Benazir Pakistan” in honor of Independence Day.
Educational institutions, both private and government, will conduct various activities, including competitions, functions, and sessions to educate students about the historical struggle behind Pakistan’s creation.
The capital city has been transformed into a sea of green and white, with numerous stalls offering Jashan-i-Azadi merchandise, including clothing, flags, bunting, pin badges, toys, and other decorative items, especially popular among the youth and children.
With Independence Day taking on the spirit of a national festival, various brands, online retailers, eateries, cab-hailing services, and electronics companies are offering exciting discounts, adding to the festive atmosphere.
