Primary schools in Islamabad will introduce artificial intelligence into their curriculum

The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training has unveiled a new curriculum for Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to be introduced in primary schools across the capital for grades 1 through 5.

This new curriculum is intended to provide students with fundamental IT and AI skills, laying a strong foundation for their future in technology. The aim is to prepare students for potential career opportunities in these fields. The ministry emphasized that this curriculum will be continuously updated to stay current with technological advancements. It is designed to help students thrive in a digital world.

Education Secretary Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani revealed that the National Curriculum Council developed the new curriculum, which will be rolled out in schools starting next month. The program will commence in the third week of August, following the hiring of computer experts.

The curriculum will include core subjects along with supplementary IT and AI education. Students will learn about computer navigation, keyboarding, essential applications and software, basic computer maintenance, and introductory coding. In AI, they will cover fundamental concepts and applications, fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and ethical understanding of AI. The federal secretary noted that no exams will be held for this curriculum to minimize student stress, aiming to make learning these skills enjoyable and engaging.
