Pakistani Actress Zhalay Sarhadi Likens Social Media to a Strict 'Desi Mom'

Pakistani actress Zhalay Sarhadi recently compared social media to a ‘strict desi mom’ following the backlash over a promotional campaign for Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The campaign, which highlights Maryam Nawaz’s achievements, has seen participation from various social media influencers and well-known Pakistani celebrities such as Urwa Hocane, Sanam Saeed, Saba Qamar, Zhalay Sarhadi, and singer Aima Baig.

Despite the campaign’s intentions, it has been met with widespread criticism from the public, resulting in anger and calls for a boycott of the participating artists.

In response to the backlash, Zhalay Sarhadi took to her Instagram story with an amusing analogy, likening social media users to a ‘desi mom.’ She wrote, “Social media is just like a desi mom. After a whole day of work, if you leave a glass on the table, you’ll hear, ‘Useless! You don’t do anything.'” Sarhadi pointed out that, much like a desi mom criticises minor mistakes, social media users harshly judge based on a single error.
