Rohit Sharma Reveals Why He Ate Soil After T20 World Cup Win

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma recently explained his spontaneous act of eating soil from the pitch after India’s victory in the T20 World Cup. Following India’s triumph over South Africa, Sharma’s celebratory gesture, which went viral on social media, was a purely unplanned moment.

In an interview with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Sharma described his feelings in that moment, stating, “I don’t think I can describe it as nothing was scripted. Whatever was coming out, I was feeling the moment.”

He emphasized the significance of the pitch and the stadium in their victory, saying, “That pitch gave us this victory, we played on that particular pitch and we won the game on that ground. I wanted to have something of it with me.”

Reflecting on the emotional connection to the moment, Sharma added, “I will remember that ground forever in my life and that pitch as well. Those moments are very special, and the place where all our dreams came true, I wanted something of it.”

Sharma’s act of consuming soil may have surprised observers, but it underscores the deep emotional impact and gratitude surrounding India’s long-awaited ICC trophy win, marking their first T20 World Cup victory in 11 years.
