Earlier in the match, the West Indies won the toss and opted to bowl first. They put on a clinical bowling display, restricting the USA to 128 runs in 19.5 overs. Roston Chase had career-best figures of 3-19 in his four overs, while Andre Russell took 3-31 in 3.5 overs.

Chase, who was named Player of the Match, expressed his excitement over achieving career-best figures in front of his family and friends. He emphasized the importance of spinners in their strategy, particularly if early wickets are not taken. Chase stated, “It was my destiny and my goal to win the World Cup, so anyone we play we have to beat from here to win it.”
For the USA, Andries Gous was the top scorer with 29 runs off 16 balls. Nitish Kumar contributed 20 runs, and Ali Khan remained unbeaten with 14 runs off six balls.
