The Lahore Traffic Police has suspended the driving licenses of 68 motorists involved in traffic accidents. The action was taken on the instructions of Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim as part of a wider campaign to improve road safety and strengthen traffic law enforcement.
According to a spokesperson, the Lahore Traffic Police has introduced a stricter policy for drivers involved in both fatal and non-fatal road accidents. Under the new approach, the driving license of any motorist involved in such accidents will be suspended immediately.
Officials said the decision is aimed at reducing reckless driving and encouraging motorists to follow traffic rules more carefully. The department believes strict enforcement can help lower the number of road accidents across the city.
The Lahore Traffic Police also warned that anyone caught driving with a suspended license will face legal action. Authorities said motorists must respect the suspension order and avoid driving until their license is restored according to the law.
Chief Traffic Officer Syed Abdul Rahim said careless and irresponsible driving puts lives at risk. He stressed that traffic violations leading to accidents will not be ignored.
According to the CTO, drivers found responsible for dangerous or negligent driving will have their licenses suspended for at least one year. This penalty will apply after the necessary legal and administrative procedures.
The department also announced stricter action in cases involving fatal road accidents. Drivers found responsible for deadly crashes will not only lose their driving licenses but will also face legal proceedings under the relevant laws.
Officials believe the tougher policy will encourage safer driving habits among motorists. They hope the fear of losing a driving license will make drivers more careful on the roads.
Road safety remains a major concern in Lahore due to increasing traffic and a growing number of vehicles. Authorities regularly launch awareness campaigns and enforcement drives to improve public safety.
Traffic police continue to monitor violations such as speeding, reckless driving, signal breaking, dangerous overtaking, and careless driving. These behaviors are among the leading causes of road accidents in urban areas.
The latest action reflects the department’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of citizens. Officials said strict enforcement is necessary to reduce preventable accidents and improve traffic discipline.
Motorists have also been advised to follow speed limits, obey traffic signals, and remain alert while driving. Defensive driving and respect for traffic rules can significantly reduce accident risks.
The Lahore Traffic Police urged drivers to ensure they always carry a valid driving license and other required documents. Anyone whose license has been suspended should avoid driving until the suspension period ends or legal requirements are fulfilled.
Authorities said road safety is a shared responsibility. Drivers, pedestrians, and other road users must all play their part in creating a safer traffic environment.
