Schengen Visa Fee Rises, New Fees Apply

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]The Schengen visa fee is slated to rise next month, as confirmed by Slovenia’s Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs. Under the updated fee structure, adult applicants will be required to pay €90, a 12 percent increase from the current €80. Children aged six to 12 will face a revised fee of €45, effective from June 11th this year. Additionally, countries failing to cooperate in repatriating their citizens residing irregularly in EU member states may face higher fees, up to €135 or €180.

The last adjustment to visa fees occurred in February 2020, when application costs rose from €60 to €80. The upcoming change will apply globally. The decision stems from a recent review conducted in December last year, held every three years to account for inflation and civil servant salaries in Member States.

During the public consultation phase, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) expressed concerns that increased visa fees could hinder travel affordability, potentially impacting local EU economies by discouraging tourists and reducing travel activity.

The reaction of travelers to the fee revision remains to be seen, with IATA’s analysis suggesting possible repercussions. This development coincides with an increasing number of countries forging visa-free agreements, providing tourists with diverse options for tourism and recreation.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
