The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Majlis-e-Shura unanimously rejected the resignation of party Ameer Sirajul Haq, as announced by spokesperson Qaiser Shareef. Following the meeting, the party spokesperson confirmed that the central Majlis al-Shura expressed full confidence in Sirajul Haq, who will continue to serve as the JI chief, in accordance with the party constitution.

Qaiser Sharif also mentioned that Sirajul Haq is scheduled to hold a press conference on Sunday. During the meeting, JI leaders emphasized that it was the alleged ‘rigging’ and not Sirajul Haq that led to the party’s defeat in the recently held General Elections 2024.

The Majlis-e-Shoora also decided to persist in discussions with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) regarding the alleged ‘rigging’ in the elections. The spokesperson stated that JI would continue to protest what they deemed as election rigging until the mandate is restored to the ‘genuine’ winners.

On February 12, Sirajul Haq had announced his resignation from the party’s top position in the aftermath of the February 8 general elections. He took responsibility for the election defeat and communicated his resignation as the party ameer through a brief post on a social media platform, now known as X.
