A eaarthquake measuring 5.1 magnitude struck several parts of Balochistan on Friday, causing concern among residents. The tremors were felt across multiple districts, prompting many people to leave their homes and move to open areas as a safety precaution.
According to the Seismological Center, the eaarthquake had a magnitude of 5.1. The tremors were reported in Zhob, Barkhan, Rakhni, Kohlu, and nearby areas. Residents experienced noticeable shaking, but no immediate reports of injuries or major property damage were received.
The Seismological Center said the earthquake occurred at a depth of 17 kilometers. Its epicenter was located around 60 kilometers northeast of Kohlu.
Local authorities are monitoring the situation and are expected to assess the affected areas if reports of damage emerge. Officials have not announced any casualties or significant destruction following the latest seismic activity.
The latest eaarthquake came only hours after another tremor was recorded in the same region. Earlier in the day, a 5.0-magnitude earthquake also struck near Kohlu.
According to the Seismological Center, the earlier earthquake occurred at a depth of 18 kilometers. Its epicenter was located approximately 65 kilometers northeast of Kohlu. People in surrounding areas also felt those tremors and briefly left their homes as a precaution.
The two earthquakes occurred within a short period, raising concern among local residents. However, officials have not stated whether the two seismic events are directly connected.
Balochistan is one of Pakistan’s most earthquake-prone regions due to its location near active tectonic plate boundaries. Small and moderate earthquakes are recorded in different parts of the province throughout the year.
Experts advise people living in earthquake-prone areas to remain prepared for possible aftershocks. Residents should follow official safety guidelines during seismic events and avoid staying inside damaged buildings until they have been inspected.
Emergency officials also recommend keeping emergency supplies ready and identifying safe open spaces before an earthquake occurs. Quick and calm action can reduce the risk of injuries during strong ground shaking.
Although the latest earthquakes caused panic, there have been no confirmed reports of fatalities or major structural damage. Authorities continue to observe the situation in case additional tremors are recorded.
