Saqlain Mushtaq, initially slated to assume the role of spin bowling coach for Multan Sultans in the upcoming ninth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), has decided to step back from the position due to scheduling conflicts. The franchise has officially announced that David Parsons, the former Performance Director of the England Cricket Board (ECB), will now take over from Saqlain Mushtaq.

Parsons, who previously served as the national spin bowling coach for the ECB from 2005 to 2007, has been engaged in activities beyond cricket recently. Currently serving as the Performance Director for England Netball, Parsons is taking a temporary break from his usual full-time role.

Having worked in Pakistan before, Parsons made a favorable impression on Multan Sultans’ owner, Ali Tareen. During his previous stint, he spent a week at the Multan Sultans Academy, overseeing a group of young spinners in Lodhran, South Punjab. Notably, one of the spinners he mentored during that period was Faisal Akram, a left-arm wrist-spinner. Faisal is set to rejoin Multan’s squad under Parsons’ guidance, with assistance from Alex Hartley, a former England Women’s spinner.

Parsons expressed his enthusiasm about reuniting with Faisal Akram, highlighting their previous work together in the academy.

As the anticipation for PSL 9 builds up, scheduled to kick off on February 17th and run until March 18th, Parsons is stepping into the role with excitement. With just a month left before the action begins, the coaching team, led by Parsons, is gearing up for the upcoming season.
