Turkish Airlines’ CEO, Bilal Eksi, confirmed the order of 355 aircraft, including Airbus’ A321 and A350, in a social media statement. This unexpected deal has pleasantly surprised aviation enthusiasts and is set to expand the Turkish flag carrier’s existing fleet of 439 jets.

Expressing well wishes, Eksi stated, “I wish good luck to our country and our company.”
According to Turkish Airlines, the purchases are part of its strategic plan for 2023-2033. However, confusion surrounds the number of jets ordered. Turkish Airlines claims firm orders for 230 jets and purchasing rights for an additional 125, while Airbus argues that the 230 figure includes 10 jets already ordered, covering only 220 new aircraft.
Despite the discrepancy, the confirmed order has a catalogue price exceeding $40 billion, likely benefiting from substantial discounts for such a substantial order.
In February, India’s Air India made headlines with an order for 470 Boeing and Airbus passenger jets, valued at $34 billion for 220 Boeing aircraft and an undisclosed sum for 250 Airbus planes. The deal, considered Airbus’ third-largest sale in dollar value, garnered global attention, with US President Joe Biden describing it as ‘historic’ during a telephonic discussion with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Air India’s expansion aims to capture the growing market of middle-class Indians preferring air travel for leisure and work. The order includes 190 Boeing 737 Max aircraft, 20 787s, and 10 777Xs, with the potential for an additional 370 planes, bringing the total to 840.
The rising demand for air travel in Asia, particularly in India, driven by factors like the growing middle class’s preference for air travel, has contributed to significant orders for both Boeing and Airbus, solidifying their positions in the aviation industry. Airbus, with around 130,000 employees, is a key player in designing, manufacturing, and delivering aerospace products and solutions globally.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
