Spain have reclaimed the No. 1 spot in the latest FIFA men’s world rankings after lifting the 2026 FIFA World Cup, ending Argentina’s reign as the world’s highest-ranked team.
FIFA’s updated rankings place Spain on 1,995 points following their 1-0 extra-time victory over Argentina in the World Cup final. The triumph, combined with their UEFA Euro 2024 title, cements La Roja’s status as the world’s top national team.
Argentina slipped to second with 1,970 points after finishing as World Cup runners-up, while France remained third despite losing to England in the third-place playoff. England stayed fourth, and Brazil climbed one place to complete the top five.
Morocco continued its impressive rise to a record-high sixth place, while Portugal dropped to seventh after their Round of 16 exit. Belgium climbed to eighth, the Netherlands fell to ninth, and Mexico entered the top 10 following a strong World Cup campaign on home soil.

FIFA also released the official final standings for the 2026 World Cup. Spain finished as champions, Argentina secured second place, England claimed third after defeating France, and Norway emerged as one of the tournament’s biggest surprises by finishing fifth.
Norway recorded the biggest jump in the rankings, climbing 12 places to 19th after reaching the quarter-finals. Tunisia suffered the biggest fall, dropping 12 spots to 57th after exiting the tournament without a point.
The latest FIFA rankings will be used for seedings in future World Cup qualifiers and other major international competitions.
