MQM-P Selects 200 Candidates For Upcoming Elections

Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) has finalized a list of 200 candidates for the upcoming 2024 general elections. In the first phase, the parliamentary board conducted interviews with over 600 candidates and subsequently shortlisted 200 candidates in the second phase.

According to sources, the parliamentary board will submit the list of candidates to the Rabita Committee. A delegation from MQM-P, including party convenor Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Dr. Farooq Sattar, Aminul Haque, and others, held discussions with the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja at the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) headquarters.

During the meeting, the political party expressed its concerns about the new delimitations, specifically in constituencies like Karachi’s Malir, Keamari, Baldia, and Korangi. The MQM-P delegation also objected to the amalgamation of rural and urban areas in various Sindh cities, including Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpur Khas, and Nawabshah.

MQM-P leaders urged the CEC to take suo-motu action on the raised objections and requested the removal of the Sindh election commissioner, expressing a lack of confidence in him ahead of the general elections.

Sources revealed that MQM-P plans to challenge the new constituency list issued by the ECP by approaching the Islamabad High Court (IHC). The CEC assured the MQM-P delegation that the complaints would be addressed promptly.
