In a statement made on Monday, China expressed its commitment to actively contribute to the restoration of peace in Palestine and to collaborate with the international community in persistent efforts to mediate conflicts and steer the Palestinian issue towards a two-state solution.
Wang Wenbin, the Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, underlined China’s dedication to peace in Palestine, especially as it assumes the presidency of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the current month. He acknowledged the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, emphasizing that it challenges the fundamental principles of international relations and the conscience of humanity.

China pledged to mobilize the UNSC to fulfill its obligations, seek consensus, and take responsible and meaningful action promptly to alleviate the ongoing crisis and protect the safety of civilians. Wang Wenbin highlighted the significant loss of life, particularly among civilians, in the recent Palestinian-Israeli conflict, with over 11,000 casualties reported.
He called the situation a tragedy that tests the moral principles of humanity and violates the basic norms of international relations, urging the international community not to allow it to persist. China firmly denounced actions that harm civilians, damage civilian infrastructure, and breach international humanitarian law.
Wang Wenbin urged all relevant parties to exercise maximum restraint, cease hostilities immediately, ensure the safety of civilians, hospitals, and other facilities protected under the Geneva Convention, establish humanitarian aid routes, and prevent the humanitarian crisis from worsening. Recent reports indicated Israeli forces’ targeting of ambulances near Al-Shifa Hospital, as well as attacks on Al-Maghazi and Al-Shati refugee camps, a UN-run school (Al-Fakhoura school), and other civilian structures in the Gaza Strip, leading to substantial casualties, including children. These actions blatantly violated the Geneva Convention’s provisions on the protection of civilians in times of war.
