Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Rashid Latif has served a legal notice to PJ Mir, a former Pakistan cricketer turned journalist, over defamatory statements made against him and Javed Miandad. The notice demands an apology within 14 days, with a threat of PJ Mir being liable to pay Rs 1 Billion for harming the reputation of the ex-cricketer.

It’s worth noting that PJ Mir had alleged that Rashid Latif had physically confronted Javed Miandad in Antigua during Pakistan’s tour of the West Indies in 1993, in a live broadcast on a Pakistani channel.

In response to this claim, Rashid Latif clarified that he had never engaged in any physical altercation or raised his voice in the presence of the cricketing legend, and he expressed deep respect for Miandad, considering him a national hero and a source of pride for Pakistan.

Rashid Latif made his statement on a platform called “X,” stating, “I have never resorted to any form of physical aggression or raised my voice in front of the legendary Javed Miandad. Javed bhai is not just a cricket legend (an ICC Hall of Famer), but also a national hero and a source of pride for Pakistan. I had the honor of making my debut for Pakistan under his captaincy, and he is an invaluable institution in the world of cricket from whom I’ve learned significantly. I hold him in the highest regard, akin to a father figure. Through my legal representative, I have sent a legal notice to Mr. PJ Mir, demanding an unconditional apology and a suitable retraction within 14 days regarding the baseless comments he made about both me and Javed bhai. @Javed__Miandad @umairkaz.”

PJ Mir had made these surprising allegations while recounting incidents related to internal conflicts within the team during a broadcast on Samaa TV. His comments left fellow panelists on the channel, former cricketers Shahid Afridi and Mushtaq Ahmed, in a state of disbelief. Mir went on to reveal that the dressing room atmosphere for Pakistan’s team had been strained in 1993.

He had even flown from London to Antigua and discussed with the then team manager, Khaled Mahmud, advising against making any statements regarding the dressing room situation. Mir disclosed that a few cricketers had even sold their stories to The Sun for £10,000. He also claimed that Rashid Latif had physically confronted Javed Miandad, and he witnessed Miandad sitting outside. Mir expressed his sympathy for Miandad and suggested that he should move past the incident.
