This statement emphasizes President Arif Alvi’s visit to the Palestinian Embassy in Islamabad as a demonstration of solidarity with the Palestinian people. It coincided with Pakistan sending humanitarian aid to Gaza, which is currently facing an Israeli blockade.

During the visit, President Alvi met with Palestinian Ambassador Ahmed Jawad Rabei and conveyed Pakistan’s solidarity with the Palestinian people on behalf of the government and the Pakistani population.

President Alvi also called for the United Nations to discuss the atrocities in Palestine and for the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to pass a resolution to halt Israeli actions. It’s important to note that Pakistan and Israel do not have diplomatic relations.

The President warned that such harsh actions could lead to increased hatred and more conflicts and stressed the need for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to strongly support Palestine.

He condemned the brutalities in Gaza, Israel’s disproportionate response, and the long-standing apartheid in the region, pointing out incidents like the bombing of a Gaza hospital and the loss of numerous lives.

On the same day, Pakistan announced the dispatch of the initial batch of humanitarian assistance to Gaza through Egypt. A chartered plane carrying 100 tonnes of essential medical supplies, tents, and blankets left Islamabad for Egypt, and these supplies will be transferred to Gaza from Egypt.

The Pakistani government expressed deep concern about the situation in Gaza and condemned Israel’s actions, characterizing them as violations of international humanitarian and human rights law. They called for an immediate ceasefire, an end to the Gaza blockade, and the creation of humanitarian corridors for unrestricted relief supplies.

The conflict in Gaza, which began on October 7, resulted from a series of events, including Hamas’ Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, which involved rocket attacks and infiltrations into Israel. This was seen as a response to tensions around the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Israeli settler violence. In response, the Israeli military launched Operation Swords of Iron against Hamas targets in Gaza.

Gaza is facing a severe humanitarian crisis, with shortages of electricity, water, food, fuel, and medical supplies. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire to alleviate the extensive suffering in the region. The statement also provides casualty figures for Palestinians and Israelis.
