Reportedly, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman has proposed the name “Dr. Ruth Pfau Road” for the main roadway. Among the numerous unidentified roads in Islamabad, one will soon bear the name of Dr. Ruth Pfau.

Having arrived from Germany in 1961, Dr. Ruth Pfau devoted five and a half decades to combating leprosy in Pakistan. Her remarkable contributions were recognized with the Hilal-i-Pakistan, Hilal-i-Imtiaz, Nishan-i-Quaid-i-Azam, and Sitara awards.

Dr. Pfau played an instrumental role in establishing 157 leprosy clinics across Pakistan, providing treatment to 56,780 patients. The Fazaia Ruth Pfau Medical College and Hospital in Karachi were also named in her honor. She was accorded state honors at her burial in August 2017.

This initiative to rename the road after Dr. Ruth Pfau is part of a broader endeavor by the CDA. In June 2023, the CDA decided to rename the renowned IJP Road as “Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed Road,” which sparked mixed reactions from the public. Despite some reservations, the renaming process was carried out upon the road’s inauguration.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
