Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced plans for cancer hospitals across the province. The facilities are expected to become operational within 12 months.
Speaking at the inauguration of electric buses in Multan, Maryam Nawaz discussed several healthcare projects. She said the Punjab government is developing major medical facilities across the province.
The planned projects include cancer hospitals and cardiology facilities. According to the chief minister, these hospitals will also treat patients from other provinces.
Maryam Nawaz said the government is working to expand access to specialized healthcare. She stated that cancer treatment facilities will be established in every division of Punjab.
The chief minister also shared details about cancer treatment already available in Lahore. She said 100 cancer patients have fully recovered after treatment with a coablation machine.
According to her, the treatment costs between Rs. 1.6 million and Rs. 2.8 million per patient. She also said the procedure can be completed within 60 minutes.
The claims were made during the Multan event. Further details about the patients and treatment outcomes were not provided in the announcement.
Maryam Nawaz also highlighted the government’s broader healthcare initiatives. She said 100 million people received free medical treatment during the previous year.
She added that millions of people are receiving medicines at their homes. The initiative aims to provide medical support directly to patients.
The chief minister further announced free treatment for poor patients at the Jinnah Institute of Cardiology. She said the facility would provide healthcare services to eligible patients without cost.
The Punjab government has also allocated funds for several development programs. According to Maryam Nawaz, Rs. 300 billion has been allocated to the Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar program.
She said another Rs. 500 billion has been allocated for Suthra Punjab. The government has also allocated Rs. 200 billion each for green buses and hospitals.
The allocations cover several major development areas across Punjab. These include housing, sanitation, public transport, and healthcare infrastructure.
Maryam Nawaz also said Punjab is building what she described as the world’s largest cancer hospital. The announcement did not provide further details about its location or capacity.
The planned cancer hospitals are expected to expand specialized treatment options across Punjab. The government aims to have the facilities operational within one year.
The initiative could also provide treatment to patients traveling from other provinces. However, details about admission procedures and eligibility have not yet been announced.
The Punjab government is simultaneously working on cardiology and other healthcare facilities. These projects form part of its wider development and healthcare plans.
