Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Afghanistan’s Kam Air have signed an interline agreement to simplify international travel.
The agreement will make it easier for passengers traveling from Afghanistan to Middle Eastern destinations through Islamabad.
Under the new arrangement, travelers can book their full journey under one reservation. They will not need separate tickets for different parts of their trip.
The partnership is expected to provide a smoother travel experience for passengers using connecting flights.
The first phase of the agreement will connect Kabul with Dammam through Islamabad. Passengers will travel from Kabul to Islamabad before continuing their journey on a PIA flight.
The arrangement also includes a baggage transfer facility at Islamabad International Airport. Checked luggage will be transferred directly to the connecting flight.
This means passengers will not have to collect their bags during transit. They will also avoid the need to check their luggage again for the connecting flight.
The agreement provides another convenience for Afghan passengers traveling to Gulf destinations. Eligible travelers can remain in the airside transit area at Islamabad airport.
They will not need to complete immigration clearance in Pakistan during their transit. This is expected to reduce the time and procedures involved in connecting flights.
The cooperation between PIA and Kam Air creates a new transit route through Islamabad. It links Afghanistan with important destinations in the Middle East.
The arrangement could make travel planning easier for passengers traveling between Afghanistan and Gulf countries. A single reservation also provides a more convenient booking process.
The agreement comes after PIA underwent privatization earlier this year. The national airline continues to expand cooperation with other carriers through international arrangements.
For Kam Air passengers, the partnership provides access to PIA’s connecting services from Islamabad. It also creates a more streamlined option for reaching Gulf destinations.
The first route under the agreement focuses on Kabul and Dammam. Further cooperation could potentially support additional destinations in the future.
However, the initial phase will focus on the announced Kabul-Islamabad-Dammam connection.
The airlines said the cooperation is designed to simplify transit for passengers. It also aims to improve the overall travel process between Afghanistan and Middle Eastern markets.
With the interline arrangement, PIA and Kam Air will coordinate key parts of the passenger journey. This includes ticketing, connections and baggage handling.
