The National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) has issued an alert for heavy rain in the Potohar region and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The warning covers several areas from September 14 to 17.
According to the alert, rain with thunderstorms is expected across Islamabad, Rawalpindi and nearby districts. Attock, Chakwal and Jhelum may also receive heavy rainfall during this period.
Murree, Galiyat and other nearby hilly areas are also likely to experience thunderstorms and rain. The weather system could create several risks for residents in affected areas.
Authorities have warned that heavy rain may cause localised flooding. Low-lying areas, streams and urban locations could face temporary water accumulation.
The weather situation may also affect parts of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Several districts are expected to receive heavy rain and thunderstorms over the coming days.
The affected areas include Dir, Swat, Buner, Malakand, Shangla and Battagram. Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad and Haripur are also included in the alert.
Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan and Peshawar may also experience heavy rainfall. Nearby areas could face similar weather conditions during the forecast period.
The expected rain may increase water levels in local streams and waterways. Strong water flows could create risks for people living near these areas.
There is also a risk of landslides in mountainous locations. Heavy rainfall can weaken slopes and increase the possibility of debris falling onto roads.
The public has been advised to avoid low-lying areas during severe weather. People should also stay away from streams and other waterways.
Authorities have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall. Residents should remain alert and follow official safety instructions.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has also reported a developing rain-producing system. The system is affecting Islamabad, Rawalpindi and surrounding areas.
During the next two to five hours, rain is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Taxila and Wah Cantt. Nearby areas may also experience strong winds and thunderstorms.
Hailstorms are possible at some locations during the weather activity. Strong winds, hail and thunderstorms may damage weak structures and infrastructure.
Residents are advised to secure loose objects around their homes and workplaces. They should also remain updated through official weather and emergency advisories.
