A local court on Tuesday granted interim bail to Ibrahim Sathi, the main accused in the alleged torture of Ali Jafri in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA). The court directed him to submit surety bonds worth Rs100,000.
The case concerns allegations of severe torture against Jafri. According to the FIR registered on his complaint, Ibrahim Sathi and four accomplices allegedly kidnapped him. The suspects then subjected him to brutal physical abuse.
The FIR states that the attackers allegedly used a baseball bat during the assault. They also reportedly shaved Jafri’s head and forcibly fed him various items. The entire incident was allegedly recorded on video by the suspects.
Two alleged accomplices, Malik Ibrahim and Waqas, are currently in police custody. The complainant also claimed that the main accused had described himself as the “butcher of Tauheed Commercial.”
The case has gained further attention after allegations involving the same group surfaced from two other residents. The complaints relate to alleged attacks on residential properties in Karachi’s Defence area.
Usman Imran alleged that armed men attacked his home at around 6am on August 1. The incident reportedly occurred only a day after the alleged assault on Jafri.
According to Usman, Ibrahim accused him of leaking videos related to the Ali Jafri case. He claimed that nine armed individuals arrived outside his residence during the early morning hours.
Usman identified several people in the group, including Ibrahim Malik, Waqar and another individual named Ibrahim. He alleged that some of them were carrying sharp weapons.
Usman said Ibrahim Malik demanded that he come outside. He then allegedly saw six more people climbing onto his floor using ladders. The group reportedly left on three motorcycles after Usman went to wake his elder brother, Suleman Imran.
A separate complaint was also made by Hadi. He alleged that he was attacked from behind by Usman Baloch and Ibrahim Malik. According to his account, two other suspects also took part in the alleged assault.
Hadi further claimed that he tried to register an FIR at Darakhshan Police Station. However, he said police officials directed him to approach Clifton Police Station instead.
Hadi stated that he later submitted an application at Clifton Police Station. He alleged that no FIR had been registered in his case at the time of his statement.
The allegations have added to concerns surrounding the wider Ali Jafri torture case. The court’s interim bail order means the main accused will remain protected from arrest for the period covered by the order, subject to further proceedings.
The accusations against the suspects remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings. The complaints filed by the alleged victims will need to be examined by police and the courts before responsibility can be legally established.
