Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has approved a performance bonus equal to one month’s basic salary for its employees. The decision marks the first such move since the airline shifted to private management.
The approval was granted during the 102nd meeting of PIA’s Board of Directors held on Friday. The board sanctioned the bonus as part of efforts to recognise employee performance and strengthen workforce motivation.
A PIA spokesperson said the decision reflects the new leadership’s focus on human capital. The management considers employee welfare an important part of the airline’s broader transformation and growth strategy.
The management said the performance bonus is intended to recognise the dedication of PIA employees. It is also expected to encourage teams as the airline prepares for upcoming operational milestones.
PIA is working on several measures aimed at improving its operations and services. These include the revival of routes, better operational reliability, and improvements in customer service.
The chairman of the PIA Board said employees remain the backbone of the airline’s revival. He said the company is focused on building a culture based on excellence, accountability, and commercial viability.
The board’s decision comes as PIA begins a new phase under private management. The airline is expected to focus on improving its financial position and strengthening its overall operational performance.
Employee motivation is expected to play an important role in this transition. Management believes that recognising staff contributions can help improve performance and support the airline’s long-term objectives.
The one-month bonus therefore represents more than a financial benefit for employees. It also signals the new management’s intention to involve the workforce in PIA’s transformation.
The decision could provide a positive boost to employee morale as the airline prepares for route expansions and service improvements. The management will now face the challenge of turning these plans into measurable operational gains.
PIA’s latest move marks an early step in its effort to build a more commercially focused airline. Future performance will depend on improvements in reliability, customer service, financial management, and overall efficiency.
