The Punjab Police has approved a new policy to standardize uniforms across all operational units during the current financial year. The initiative is intended to create a consistent appearance for police personnel while maintaining the existing color of official uniforms.
Under the approved policy, several parts of the uniform will now follow a single design. These include badges, caps, berets, medals, pockets, and name plates. Officials said the new standards will ensure that officers serving in different formations wear uniforms with the same approved pattern.
According to Punjab Police officials, different operational units previously used different uniform designs and accessories. The updated policy is expected to remove these differences and establish a unified identity across the force.
The authorities clarified that only the design and pattern of the uniforms will change. The olive-green color currently used by the police will remain unchanged. The focus of the policy is to standardize the appearance without altering the official color scheme.
As part of the plan, the department will purchase more than 253,000 uniforms during the current financial year. These uniforms will be distributed among officers serving in various operational units across the province.
The procurement will cover the District Police, Punjab Highway Patrol, Traffic Police, Elite Force, Special Protection Unit, Regional Mounted Police, and several other formations. The large-scale purchase is aimed at ensuring that officers across all branches receive uniforms based on the newly approved design.
Officials said the District Police will receive the largest share of the uniforms. More than 125,000 olive-green uniforms have been allocated for district police personnel under the procurement plan.
The provincial government has allocated nearly Rs. 2 billion in the current budget to support the purchase of the new uniforms. This funding will allow the department to implement the standardization policy across the entire force.
According to the Punjab Police, every officer serving in the different operational units will receive at least one new uniform under the current program. The department believes this will help improve consistency and strengthen the professional image of the police force.
Officials also confirmed that the pre-qualification process for the procurement of more than 253,000 uniforms will begin later this month. After the selection process is completed, the department will move forward with purchasing and distributing the uniforms.
The authorities further stated that around 90,000 uniforms purchased under last year’s procurement program have already been received. These uniforms will soon be distributed among district police personnel to support ongoing operational requirements.
The standardization policy is expected to improve uniformity across different branches of the police service. A common design can make officers easier to identify and present a more organized appearance during official duties.
The Punjab Police believes the initiative will strengthen professionalism while ensuring equal standards for officers serving in different units. Uniformity in dress is also expected to improve the overall public image of the department.
