The Punjab Safe City Authority has launched a stronger crackdown on vehicles using fake, cloned, tampered, or concealed number plates. The authority is now using advanced AI-powered cameras to automatically detect suspicious vehicle registrations and support faster law enforcement.
According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Safe City Authority, the intelligent camera system can identify number plates that have been altered or intentionally hidden. The technology can detect plates covered with tape, cloth, or other materials, as well as registrations that appear fake or cloned.
When the system identifies a suspicious number plate, it immediately generates an automatic alert. This allows authorities to respond quickly without waiting for manual verification. The goal is to improve road safety and strengthen action against illegal vehicle registrations.
Once an alert is generated, the vehicle’s details are instantly shared with the nearest field force. Officers can then locate the vehicle and take immediate action if necessary. This process reduces response time and helps improve enforcement on busy roads.
Officials said the AI-based monitoring system has already produced positive results. According to data released by the authority, more than 100 fake, cloned, and suspicious vehicles were intercepted during July with the help of AI-powered cameras.
The Punjab Safe City Authority believes that modern technology can play an important role in improving traffic management and public security. Automated detection systems allow law enforcement agencies to identify violations more efficiently than traditional monitoring methods.
