The federal government on Wednesday revised petroleum prices for the next 24 hours, increasing the price of petrol while reducing the rate of high-speed diesel (HSD), according to the latest notification issued by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).
Under the revised rates, the price of motor spirit (MS) petrol has been increased by Rs4.45 per litre, taking it from Rs328.56 to Rs333.01 per litre. Meanwhile, the price of high-speed diesel has been reduced by Rs2 per litre, bringing it down from Rs385.86 to Rs383.86 per litre.
The latest revision comes a day after both petroleum products became cheaper. On Tuesday, petrol prices were reduced by Rs3.39 per litre to Rs328.56, while diesel prices fell by Rs4.07 per litre to Rs385.86 per litre under the daily pricing mechanism.
Pakistan introduced daily petroleum price revisions in July, replacing the previous fortnightly system. The government says the new mechanism reflects international oil market movements more quickly and helps avoid large price shocks for consumers by spreading changes over shorter periods.
Since the introduction of daily pricing, fuel rates have recorded a significant increase despite occasional reductions. Petrol has risen by Rs21.61 per litre compared to the rate before the new system, while diesel has increased by Rs60.53 per litre during the same period.
The revised fuel prices are expected to remain in effect for the next 24 hours, after which OGRA will issue another notification based on changes in international oil prices and the applicable pricing formula.
Consumers and transporters continue to closely monitor daily fuel price announcements, as fluctuations directly affect transportation costs, inflation, and the prices of essential goods across the country.
