The Government of Punjab has launched the Lab on Wheels project to provide modern agricultural services to farmers across the province. The initiative will offer mobile soil and water testing facilities directly at farms.
The project aims to help Punjab Farmers make better farming decisions through scientific analysis. Farmers can request a mobile laboratory by making a single phone call.
After receiving a request, field teams will visit farms to collect soil and water samples. The samples will be tested on-site, and farmers will receive immediate reports along with recommendations.
The mobile laboratories will check important soil factors, including pH levels and electrical conductivity. They will also analyze essential nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.
Through the initiative, Punjab Farmers will receive digital test reports through SMS and WhatsApp. The system will also provide crop and fertilizer recommendations based on soil conditions.
Agricultural experts will offer guidance during field visits. The purpose is to help farmers improve productivity and reduce unnecessary use of fertilizers.
Speaking at the launch, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said accurate soil testing is important for increasing agricultural output. She said balanced fertilizer use can improve crop quality and support farmers’ income.
She added that the project aims to shift Punjab’s agriculture sector from traditional methods toward a scientific and digital approach. The initiative is also expected to reduce production costs for farmers.
Officials said the project will operate through a central monitoring system. All mobile laboratories will be tracked through GPS technology to ensure transparency.
The system will also include live camera streaming and dashboard monitoring. Farmers’ requests will be processed digitally, while field staff attendance will be recorded through a mobile application.
The government has set several targets under the Lab on Wheels initiative. These include collecting 20,000 soil samples annually and arranging 500 farmers’ field days.
The programme will also focus on training 15,000 farmers and creating a digital GPS-based soil map of Punjab. The map will use real-time cloud data to improve agricultural planning.
The initiative is expected to support Punjab Farmers by providing scientific information at their doorsteps. Better soil management can help improve crop production and encourage efficient fertilizer use.
