Air Indus has officially announced plans to resume flight operations more than 11 years after suspending its services, marking a significant return to Pakistan’s aviation sector. The private airline says it is in the final stages of preparations and intends to relaunch domestic operations before expanding its network to major destinations across the Gulf.
According to information published on the airline’s official website, Air Indus is preparing to restart operations with a modern fleet comprising narrow-body jet aircraft and ATR 72-600 turboprops. The airline aims to strengthen domestic connectivity in the first phase before launching international flights to key Middle Eastern cities.
Air Indus originally suspended its operations on July 1, 2015, after facing financial and operational challenges. More than a decade later, the carrier is positioning itself for a fresh start, promising improved services, operational efficiency, and greater connectivity for travelers across Pakistan.
Domestic Network to Be Prioritized
The airline has announced that its relaunch will begin with domestic flights operating from its primary hub in Karachi. Initially, Air Indus plans to operate three daily flights between Karachi and Islamabad, along with two daily flights between Karachi and Lahore, targeting two of the country’s busiest air travel corridors.
Beyond these major routes, the airline also intends to expand services to several important domestic destinations, including Peshawar, Sialkot, Quetta, Gwadar, Faisalabad, Multan, and Skardu. In addition, Air Indus plans to introduce flights between Quetta and Islamabad, further improving connectivity within the country.
The airline stated that its renewed operations will focus on delivering reliable services with an emphasis on punctuality, passenger safety, and customer satisfaction. Company officials say the objective is to provide travelers with dependable domestic travel options while supporting the growing demand for air transportation in Pakistan.
Gulf Expansion Planned After Domestic Relaunch
Following the successful restoration of domestic services, Air Indus plans to expand internationally by launching flights to several destinations across the Gulf region.
According to the airline, international operations will connect Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and Peshawar with major cities including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Doha, Kuwait City, and Muscat.
The airline clarified that all proposed international routes remain subject to approvals from the relevant civil aviation authorities in Pakistan and the destination countries. Once regulatory approvals are secured, Air Indus hopes to tap into the strong demand for travel between Pakistan and Gulf countries, particularly among overseas Pakistani workers and business travelers.
Modern Fleet to Support Growth
Air Indus said its relaunch strategy includes operating a fleet of modern narrow-body jet aircraft, which will initially serve domestic routes before supporting the airline’s expansion into international markets.
The airline noted that these aircraft have been selected based on their fuel efficiency, operational reliability, passenger comfort, and overall performance. As part of its long-term expansion strategy, Air Indus also plans to induct ATR 72-600 turboprop aircraft into its fleet.
The ATR aircraft will primarily serve regional routes and smaller airports, allowing the airline to improve connectivity for underserved cities and Pakistan’s northern tourist destinations. The addition of turboprop aircraft is expected to strengthen access to areas where larger jet aircraft may not be economically viable.
A New Chapter for Air Indus
The airline described its return as the outcome of extensive planning aimed at rebuilding a sustainable and competitive airline. It said the relaunch reflects its commitment to offering world-class air travel services while contributing to Pakistan’s aviation industry and improving domestic and regional connectivity.
If operations begin as planned, Air Indus will rejoin an increasingly competitive aviation market alongside Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and other private carriers, offering passengers more choices for both domestic and international travel.
