Pakistan has strongly condemned the Houthi militia’s continued threats against commercial shipping linked to Saudi Arabia and the Red Sea, calling the actions a serious danger to regional stability, international trade, and global maritime security.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Foreign Office said threats targeting commercial vessels undermine freedom of navigation, disrupt international commerce, and violate established principles of international law.
“Threats to commercial activities with Saudi Arabia and commercial shipping in the Red Sea are unacceptable and constitute a violation of established principles of international law,” the Foreign Office said.
Pakistan expressed particular concern over reports that vessels engaged in legitimate commercial trade with Saudi Arabia had been threatened, warning that such actions could further escalate tensions in an already volatile region.
The Foreign Office also stressed that any attack on Pakistani-flagged ships or Pakistan’s maritime interests would be considered a direct threat to the country’s national security and sovereign interests.
It stated that Pakistan reserves the right, under the United Nations Charter and international law, to take all necessary measures, including the lawful use of force in self-defense, to safeguard its maritime assets and national interests if required.
The statement further voiced concern over attempts to draw Saudi Arabia into the broader Middle East conflict, warning that such developments could further destabilize the region.
Reaffirming its close ties with Riyadh, Pakistan expressed its “unwavering support” for the security, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and prosperity of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Foreign Office also reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to dialogue, diplomacy, and regional de-escalation, urging all parties to exercise restraint, respect international law, and ensure the safety of international maritime trade and navigation through the Red Sea.
The latest statement comes amid growing concerns over security in one of the world’s busiest shipping routes, where repeated attacks and threats have disrupted global trade and heightened regional tensions.
Pakistan emphasized that protecting international shipping lanes remains essential for global economic stability and called on all stakeholders to avoid actions that could endanger commercial vessels or escalate the conflict further.
